A prospectus can tell you what a diploma covers. It can’t tell you what a workshop sounds like at 10 in the morning, how a trainer explains something the second time a student doesn’t get it, or whether you can actually picture yourself walking through the door three days a week.

That’s what the ASTI Academy open days are for. On 23, 24 and 25 October 2026, our Al Qusais campus opens to prospective students and their families for guided tours, talks on ASTI Academy programs, a free demo class, hands-on workshops and one-to-one scholarship application guidance. You can come for an hour or stay for the afternoon. This post covers what happens across the three days, how the 50% scholarship and the application support work, and, just as useful, how to prepare so you leave with real answers rather than a bag of brochures.

What happens at the ASTI Academy open days?

The ASTI Academy open days run over three days in Dubai and combine five things: guided campus and facilities tours, presentations on each programme pathway, scholarship application guidance, meet-and-greet sessions with trainers and current students, and short hands-on workshops. Visitors can join any part on any of the three days.

Guided campus and facility tours

A guide walks you through the classrooms, labs, and workshops where the teaching actually happens. Since every program is built around practical training, these rooms matter more than they would at a lecture-led institute. Look at the equipment, ask how often students use it, and ask what a typical practical session involves. 

Program presentations

Short talks walk through ASTI Academy programmes across three main routes: Level 3 Foundation programmes, Level 4 and Level 5 Higher International Diplomas (UK qualifications in engineering, IT, business and more), and advanced professional certifications that run from three to nine months. Each talk covers who the route suits, how long it takes, how it’s assessed, and where it can lead.

Scholarship application guidance

Dedicated sessions explain how the 50% scholarship is assessed and who is eligible, and admissions staff can sit with you individually to check eligibility and start an application. More on this below.

Meet the trainers and current students

This is often the most revealing part of the day. Trainers can tell you what they expect from a first-term student. Current students can tell you what a deadline week really feels like, which is something no website will.

Can I get a scholarship for a program at ASTI Academy?

Yes. During the open days, eligible applicants at ASTI Academy can apply for a 50% scholarship. Eligibility may be based on academic merit, Recognition of Prior Learning, advanced standing, or other qualifying criteria, and each case is assessed individually, so the event is a practical chance to have yours reviewed in person.

Every student’s situation is different, so the support available is worked out with you rather than from a fixed list. Your background, the programme you choose, and any scholarship you qualify for all play a part, along with flexible payment options. The open days are the easiest place to get that complete picture in one conversation. 

During the event, scholarship application guidance works in three steps:

  1. Information session. Learn what the scholarship criteria are and which programmes they apply to.
  2. One-to-one eligibility check. An admissions advisor reviews your school results, work experience, and the programme you’re considering.
  3. Application support. If you’re eligible, staff help you complete the scholarship and programme application, so nothing is left half-done once you get home.

Visiting in person lets you test the things that matter most and are hardest to judge online: how practical the training really is, how approachable the trainers are, and whether the schedule fits your life. For parents, it’s also the simplest way to ask detailed questions about fees, support, and progression face to face.

What should I bring to the open days?

Bring your most recent school certificate or mark sheet, your passport or Emirates ID, any English test result you have, and work or training letters if you’ve been employed. These let admissions staff check your entry level, scholarship eligibility, and any Recognition of Prior Learning on the spot, instead of in a follow-up weeks later.

A short checklist to save on your phone:

  • Latest school document (Grade 11, Grade 12 pass or fail, O-Levels, or equivalent)
  • Passport and Emirates ID, if you have one
  • Proof of English, if available (if you don’t have one, say so; it doesn’t automatically rule you out)
  • Employment or training letters, for an RPL review
  • A rough idea of the field that interests you; “something with computers” is a perfectly good start

The most useful open day questions are specific: how assessment works week to week? What a typical timetable looks like? How fees and scholarships are calculated for your situation? And what current students wish they’d known?.

Do I need to register for the ASTI Academy open days?
No. The ASTI Academy open days are walk-in, so there’s no registration needed. Just come to the Dubai campus anytime during opening hours on 23, 24, or 25 October 2026 (10 AM to 6 PM). Bring your school documents if you’d like a one-to-one check of your scholarship eligibility on the same visit. 

Can parents attend the open days with their child?

Left School Early, Failed Grade 12, or Took a Few Years’ Gap? Here’s Where You Can Still Start

Failed Grade 12. Left school halfway through Grade 11. Spent two years working, helping out at home, or just not sure what came next. If any of that sounds like you, you’ve probably typed some version of the same question into your phone late at night: is it too late to go back to studying? 

It’s still open. And it’s wider than it probably feels right now. Failing Grade 12, leaving school before finishing, or spending two or three years working, caring for family, or just figuring things out doesn’t remove you from education. It changes where you walk back in. The trouble is that most admissions pages are written for the student who finished on time with decent marks, so if that isn’t you, it’s hard to tell from the fine print whether you even qualify.

This guide is written for everyone else. It lays out the common I didn’t finish the usual way situations, shows which entry point each one leads to, and ends with a few questions to help you decide what to do this month, not someday.

First, the part nobody says out loud

A failed exam year feels final because of how school is built. Everything points toward one set of results, and for a while, those results seem like the only measure of you that counts. Then school ends, and it turns out the adult world doesn’t work that way. Employers ask what you can do. Qualification frameworks ask what level you’ve reached. Neither one cares much about the path you took to get there.

That’s not a motivational line. It’s how the UK qualification system that ASTI Academy’s diplomas follow is designed. It’s built in levels, and you enter at the level that matches what you’ve already completed. Didn’t finish Grade 12? There’s a level for that. Two things are worth pointing out. The first is that none of these rows ask why you didn’t finish, or how long ago it was. The second is that Level 3 isn’t a consolation prize. It’s the level that sits directly below Level 4 in the UK framework, which means it’s the natural step before a Higher International Diploma, and from there, toward a top-up degree for students who want to keep going.

What Level 3 actually means if you didn’t finish school

This is the question behind most 12th fail searches, so it’s worth slowing down on.

A Level 3 Foundation Diploma at ASTI Academy is built for people coming from exactly where you are. The foundation program pages describe it as open to students who haven’t completed high school Year 12, or who have Grade 11, O-Level, or equivalent results, and whose first language may not be English. Programs run in engineering, IT, business, and accounting, and they can be taken on campus or online.

In practical terms, it does three jobs at once:

  1. It fills the gap your unfinished school year left, with subject foundations in the field you actually want to work in, rather than repeating every subject you struggled with the first time.
  2. It gives you a recognized UK-aligned qualification to put on your CV, which matters on its own if you want to start working sooner.
  3. It sets you up for Level 4, so you’re not stuck at the same wall again later.

If you’re weighing this against simply resitting Grade 12, that’s a fair comparison to make, and for some students a resit or supplementary exam is the right call. The question to ask yourself is whether your goal is the certificate itself (for example, because a specific university back home requires it) or getting into a career track. If it’s the second, a foundation diploma is often the more direct route.

Why the way you’re taught matters more the second time around

If school didn’t work out, it’s worth asking which part didn’t work. For a lot of people, the answer isn’t the subject. It’s the format: memorising for a single exam, sitting in a hall with a clock running, and having one bad day decide a whole year.

For a student who didn’t finish Grade 12, a typical route looks like this: Level 3 Foundation Diploma → Level 4 Higher International Diploma → Level 5 Higher International Diploma → work, or a top-up degree for those who want a bachelor’s. Each stage stands on its own as a qualification, so you can step off into employment at any point and come back later if you choose.

A few caveats worth knowing. Nobody can guarantee a job, a salary, or a university place at the end of this, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Progression to a top-up degree depends on the receiving university’s own entry rules. And a diploma is still work: assignments have deadlines, and they add up. What changes is that the effort goes into something that builds, stage by stage, instead of hinging on a single exam.

Five questions to decide your next step this week

Before you do anything else, answer these on paper. They take ten minutes, and they’ll tell you more than another hour of scrolling.

  1. What’s the last level of school I actually completed, and do I have the document to prove it? This decides your entry point more than anything else.
  2. Do I need the Grade 12 certificate itself, or do I need a way into a career? If it’s the certificate, look into resits. If it’s the career, look at a foundation diploma.
  3. What went wrong last time: the subjects, the exams, or my circumstances? Be specific. If it was exams, an assignment-based program removes that obstacle. If it was circumstances, look for flexible timing and payment.
  4. How many hours a week can I realistically give to study right now? Not ideally. Realistically. This tells you whether full-time, part-time, or online study fits.
  5. Which field would I be willing to spend six months learning about, even on a bad week? That’s your starting subject.
