Primavera Project Planning Course

Duration: 6 Months

• Master the structural hierarchy of enterprise data (EPS, OBS, and WBS).
• Build complex, logically linked project schedules using Critical Path Method (CPM).
• Manage resource loading, leveling, and cost-integration for accurate forecasting.
• Utilize advanced analytical tools like Global Change, Visualizer, and Risk Analysis.
• Develop high-level reporting dashboards for executive-level decision-making

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  1. Construct an Enterprise Project Structure (EPS) that mirrors a real-world corporate hierarchy.
  2. Optimize schedules by identifying critical paths, managing float, and applying advanced constraints.
  3. Implement Earned Value Management (EVM) to track cost and schedule performance (CPI/SPI).
  4. Perform delay analysis and “what-if” scenarios using Reflections and Baseline comparisons.
  5. Automate repetitive administrative tasks using Global Change and Excel Import/Export.
Module 1: Enterprise Setup & Project Initiation

• Creating the Enterprise Project Structure (EPS) and Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS).
• User-defined fields and Activity Codes for global sorting.
• Developing a robust Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
• Calendar management: Global vs. Project-specific calendars.

Module 2: Scheduling & Logic Architecture

• Activity types: Task Dependent, Resource Dependent, and Milestones.
• Relationship types (FS, SS, FF, SF) and the strategic use of Lag/Lead.
• The “Must Finish By” constraint and Total Float vs. Free Float.
• Advanced Scheduling Options: Retained Logic vs. Progress Override.

Module 3: Resource & Cost Integration

• Defining Labor, Non-labor, and Material resources.
• Resource Curves and Bucket Loading for non-linear distribution.
• Resource Leveling: Resolving over-allocations without extending deadlines.
• Tracking Project Expenses vs. Resource-calculated costs.

Module 4: Execution, Baselines & Control

• Setting Project and User Baselines for variance analysis.
• Updating progress: Physical, Duration, and Units % Complete.
• Using “Progress Spotlight” and Statusing activities.
• Earned Value Management: Analyzing SV, CV, SPI, and CPI.

Module 5: Advanced Analytics & Reporting

• Global Change: Bulk editing data using logical IF/THEN statements.
• Primavera Visualizer: Creating time-scaled logic diagrams and TSLDs.
• Claim Digger / Schedule Comparison: Identifying changes between schedule versions.
• Importing/Exporting XER and XML files for external collaboration.
