ASTI Dubai offers this Higher International Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with the approval of Govt.of Dubai & KHDA along with TVET,NQA & QAD. Higher International Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering qualification is designed to prepare learners for last year of Bachelors’s Degree or a high paying career in Electrical or Electronics industry.This course is practical & skill oriented which makes the student very acceptable to the engineering industry.





Higher International Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Level of Course
HID is a Level 5 qualification (equivalent to the second year of a UK Bachelor’s Degree). There is an embedded level 4 exit qualification, the Level 4 certificate.
Number of Credit Hours
Upon successful completion of the course the student will have completed at least 15 units and 240 + credits. On completion of Level 4 certificate the student will have completed at least 8 units and 120 + credits.

The HID is a level-5 qualification delivered over two years, the first year at level 4 and the second year at level 5. If a student opts to take the HID, the student would be eligible for a Higher International Diploma after successful completion of a minimum of 15 modules.

Intended Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Possess applied Knowledge of Design, Manufacture, Safety and Maintenance of Electrical Systems, Subsystem and Components.
  • Identify, Formulate, Analyze and solve Engineering and Industrial complex problems using applied Engineering Mathematics, Science and Engineering Principles.
  • An ability to develop a component, Product, and Process to encounter desired needs by considering various factors such as Health and Safety, Economic, Ethical, Manufacturability, and Sustainability.
  • Understand the Impact and Safety Practices of Engineering Solutions in Societal, Environmental, Global and Economic contexts.
  • Apply the knowledge of Basic Principles, Tools and Techniques to Perform Repair, Maintenance and Service Operation in Electrical System.
  • Apply the appropriate IT skills, modern Engineering tools and Techniques for engineering practice.
  • Effective communication by reading Electronic circuit designs and drawing, resource and material requirements according to Electrical components and manufacturing needs.
  • Engage themselves in life-long learning by recognizing the need and technological changes.
  • Apply engineering and management principles to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.
The Higher Internation Diploma Level 4 is made up of 120 credits and be completed over a years’ time. The Higher Internation Diploma a combination of both levels 4 and 5 and is made up of 240 credits, this qualification is usually studied full-time/part-time over two years.

Workshop and General Safety

  • ULO1 – Ability to select appropriate tool and process for the required application
  • ULO2 – Ability to understand basic operation in manufacturing and production
  • ULO3 - Ability to maintain a safety procedure and use safety tools and equipment in engineering practice.

Technical drawings with Engineering Graphics

  • ULO1 - Use an appropriate tools to develop technical drawings.
  • ULO2 - Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • ULO3 - Ability to provide the required information in technical drawing according to process and operation.

IT Application for Engineers

  • ULO1 - Ability to create, select or apply appropriate software tool to improve the performance
  • ULO2 - Develop documents and report preparation skills for various engineering activities such as approval, quotation, design, and estimation.
  • ULO3 - Ability to performance analytical calculation, synthesis and interpret the data.

Electronic Devices & Circuits

  • ULO1 – Comprehend the characteristics of electronic devices.
  • ULO2 – Working and operation of BJT, FET, and LEDs.
  • ULO3 – To understand the analysis of laws and network theorems in electrical circuits.

Microprocessor and Micro controller

  • ULO1 - Comprehend the flow of architecture.
  • ULO2 - Ability to deal with peripherals ICs that involves in Processor and controller.
  • ULO3 - Ability to handle with the various applications of microcontroller

Design of Electrical Machines

  • ULO1- Comprehend the principles of electro-mechanical conversion

Control Systems

  • ULO1 - Understand the analysis of the linear continuous-time system.
  • ULO2 – To introduce with poles and zeros for mathematical models.
  • ULO3 – To assess the system with graphical analysis in the frequency domain.

Linear Integrated Circuits

  • ULO1 - Comprehend the various IC fabrication process.
  • ULO2 - Ability to deal with analog linear IC.
  • ULO3 - Ability to handle special function IC for the design and development of electrical and electronics circuits.

Applied Mathematics for Electrical Engineering

  • ULO1 – Develop problem-solving skills.

Digital Logic Circuits

  • ULO1 – Ability to simplify the mathematical expressions using Boolean functions.

  • ULO1 – To understand communication using wire and wireless medium

Programmable logic controllers and Industrial automation.

  • ULO1 - Ability to understand the design and architecture of Programmable logic controllers also to demonstrate a program for a programmable logic controller device

  • ULO3 - Understand the concepts of communication buses.

Special Electrical Machines

  • ULO1 – Understand the theory and applications of special machines
  • ULO2 - Ability to Understand the fundamental concepts of permanent magnets and the operation of brushless DC motors.
  • ULO3 - To Understand introduce the concepts of stepper motors, servo motors, and its applications.

AI Application to Power systems

  • ULO1 - Understand various AI applications, used into Power Systems
  • ULO2 - Understand the principle of Artificial Neural Networks
  • ULO3 - Understand the principle of the Genetic Algorithm and Fuzzy Logic System.

Transmission and Distribution

  • ULO1 - Ability to understand the computation of fundamental parameters of lines
  • ULO2 - Ability to separate the lines into different classes.
  • ULO3 - Ability to analyze the voltage distribution in insulator strings and cables

Power System Analysis

  • ULO1 - Understand steady-state operating conditions.
  • ULO2 - Ability to model and analyze the system under balanced and unbalanced conditions and stability analysis.
  • ULO3 - To analyze the stability of the power system when it is subjected to a fault.

Protection and Switchgear

  • ULO1 - Acquire the knowledge about the faults in transformer protection
  • ULO2 - Analyze the design of a protective scheme with a suitable selection of protective components.
  • ULO3 - Ability to understand and compare different circuit breakers

Environmental Engineering

  • ULO1 – Inspect the impact of engineering solutions in the global, societal and environmental contexts.
  • ULO2 – Understand the importance of healthy environment and conservation of resources
  • ULO3 – Ability to examine sustainable development and environmental issues in professional undertakings

Leaner must score a minimum of 240 credits to be awarded level 5 Diploma.
The learning and teaching strategy for  Higher International Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering degree are designed effectively & efficiently so as to attain the 240 credits ,& gain the intended learning outcomes as per the module.

The general approach to enabling the learning process for most modules involves:

Due to the wide variety of modules included in this programme, there may be different approaches adopted that are appropriate for a particular module. At the start of each module, tutors will provide a scheme of work which details the module structure, assessment and learning and teaching approaches to be adopted.

The following criteria must be met in order to secure admission to ASTI Dubai. Academic (at least one of the following)

  • Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution or body
  • A Level 3 qualification in Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of industrial experience or relevant professional experience.
